personal expierencies

one from a Dakota Michael Delaney

My experience at the carnival is that I love it! It’s a good place to get away to! The rides are awesome! The food is mighty delicious! The caramel apples, the cotton candy and theirs always more! My favorite ride was the gravitron! It reminds me of a spaceship Because of the shape and how it looks with the lights and colors of it, and when you’re in it you get the centrifugal force to just pin you down and you cant really even lift up parts of you’re body! You can flip upside down and not fall or hit your head the force that’s being applied on your body holds you up! They sell really cool stuff at the one that comes to Logan, Utah every year! I usually get cool stuff like knifes, candy, shirts, and just some of the cool stuff they sell! I Ride a couple of the rides. It’s a great place to go to with your friends! You can also take your date to the carnival! It’s very interesting to walk through the stands that they have and see what their selling! You can get a lot of stuff! You can find stuff like clothing, earrings, hats, swords, knives, different types of food! Find stuff from different cultures, you see a lot of teenagers and younger children their, it gets very crowded at times, yet sometimes it’s deserted. You almost always lose at the games because most are rigged, but if you do win, you can say “I have some mad skills at these games!” Theirs the rides that look very sketchy, but it makes the ride all that much better!

one from another individual

A couple years ago, my brother Sheldon Rogers, used to be a Carnie, he would help build rides and put them together. He would also help get things ready and packed to move out to a different town, city, or even state.
It was about a couple years ago, my mom told me that my brother was going to be leaving for a while, and that we were going to go see him before he left. He was in Preston Idaho at the time.
When I got there he was working on one of the rides, he was putting It together, I asked him if there was anything I could do to help him. I didn’t really do much I just got like screws for him and handed him what he needed if he couldn’t move from the position he was in. I really can’t remember what ride he was working on but if I had to take my best guess of what I could remember, it looked like the zipper.
All the Carnies that are there had a carnie name, the boss always gave them a name he could remember them buy. My friend Debbie beckstead also went with the carnies, the Boss called her girly, I don’t know why he gave her that name, but I guess whatever he says. My brother’s carnie name was Ivan the terrible, but they all just called him Ivan.
Anyways whenever they were done they would put it in the back of a semi, and someone would drive the semi, while other carnies were in the little bus. What they did was they took out the seats of the bus and put bunk beds in them, and that’s how they would sleep.
I have always wanted to go work with my brother, but my dad and mom told me no because of my schooling. It kind of sucks but I guess education is better than traveling around with no education at all.

the ring of fire!

The Ring of Fire is a giant circle about sixty feet in diameter. There is one trailer that goes round and around in circles. On some of the Ring of Fire rides they have “light shows” so that when you are on the ride it displays a beautiful light show. I have not seen it at night, but when I was little I watched my mother and sister ride it. They said it was probably the scariest ride they have ridden because when you go upside down so fast it feels like your going to fall out. This (on the left) is the Powers Great American Midways Ring of Fire ride at the duchess county fair of 2007. It was at the 2006 to 2008 Montgomery county ag fair. They sold this one around the same year they bought a newer all white fireball ride for the fair of 2009. The Larson international ring of fire was first debuted in 1988. It can hold 20 passengers and are only trailer mounted models (one trailer). Just like any thrill rides there has been accidents resulting in great injuries, and sometimes even death. Jim McCoy, who was a ride worker, was testing the ring of fire when he fell to ground 30 feet. Two women were astonished when they fell across a metal guard rail when a wire on the ride came loose. They inspected and repaired the ring of fire, and then reopened. On August 19, 2006 ten people were stranded upside down in Caledonia, Minnesota when the ring of fire suddenly stopped. It took about 15 minutes for carnival workers to get the trailer into a position for which the passengers could get safely out. The Ring of Fire brings a whirl wind of emotions. It is deathly scary, but it brings such a frightening experience that brings everybody wanting more. Any ride at a fair or theme park has one goal, which is to excite the crowd. The Ring of Fire is a ride that only you can take so much of. One woman claimed that she felt like she was going to get thrown out of the trailer.

house of mirros

The house of mirrors has been around for a long time. The original first known “house of mirrors” was built in 1889. The builder was a Madam by the name of Jennie Rogers. Jenny Rogers was born on July 4, 1843 in Pittsburgh and died in the 1909 in Denver. She is currently buried in the Fairmount cemetery under the name of “Leah Wood.” Jenny Rogers ran the house during the early years. However, Jenny Rogers had to deal with competition against Mattie Silks. Jenny ran the house until about 1910 when Mattie came and took over. While Mattie ran the house the house gained a reputation of being one of the best “gentlemen’s house” and best eating establishment. Mattie offered great benefits to the girls that worked for her such as higher pay and medical attention. The 2 floors of the building were each dedicated to something. The 1st floor was dedicated to the restaurant and “viewing” area. It was men commonly ate and was a much respected eatery. The 2nd floor was where the girls had their rooms. The rooms were designed in an interesting way. The bed would fall from the wall and block the door, making their guests, or men, feel more secure.

The house of mirrors is an attraction to people at fairs. The main concept behind the house of mirrors is to be a maze-like puzzle for people. It is completely surrounded by mirrors, making it confusing for people to find their way through since they are constantly seeing their reflections. The mirrors are supposed to be the obstacles the people should overcome and there is also a glass pane where they can’t go through at the moment. To make it more interesting, some of the mirrors are distorted making the reflection of the people look weird. These distorted make the house of mirrors fun and send a lot of laughter to the people. Some mirrors make you appear short and fat, and some make you look tall and skinny. The house of mirrors can be frustrating at the same time, because you keep bumping into different mirrors and it’s hard to find the right way out. The house of mirrors is amusing to peoIn a house of mirrors, from personal experiences, was frustrating and hard. It seems easy to find your way through but once you are in there it’s much more difficult then you thought. You are constantly bumping into other mirrors and seeing your reflection everywhere. At times you feel like giving up and getting out but you can’t get out once you are in there, because either way you have to figure your way out. However, a house of mirrors can be really fun and funny. Seeing weird funny reflections of you and the people around you makes you laugh and have a good time. Once you get out you feel accomplished and good for making it out. I’ve only been to the little kid house of mirrors in the Logan, UT fair.
Going back to the history of the house of mirrors, in Mattie’s house of mirrors there was a lot of reported paranormal activity. This made it a bigger attraction to people. Most of the activity was reported to be coming from the 2nd floor in the building. Staff members reported hearing parties, and the piano playing on the 2nd floor when no one was in the building. Footsteps, the elevator moving without calling for it, and reflections of strange faces in the mirrors were also reported. Once a kid went up to the 2nd floor and returned asking the staff who had been smoking in the bathroom. The staff went up to check, since it was forbidden so smoke in the building and they found a old box and lots of smoke in the room. An investigation for the paranormal activity was done on 12/11/00 from 10 A.M.-6 P.M. They turned off all the heat and air conditioning to avoid having noise. In small areas the video camera had troubles working properly and in those small areas they also recorded small voices. The hanging lights in the room were seen swaying slowly back and forth.

The biggest known house of mirrors is in the Palace of Versailles. The Palace of Versailles is located near Paris, France. The house of mirrors has 7 big mirrors that fade in overlooking the gardens. Each arch in the Palace of Versailles owns 21 mirrors. Total, the Palace of Versailles owns 357 mirrors. The construction of the building began in 1678. It was the location of the powerful monarchy celebrations in France. Today, the Palace of Versailles is a huge tourist spot. It’s best to go in the mornings to avoid big crowds. The recommended way to visit is to go on tourist guides to learn more about it along the way.

the food at the carnival!

were invented some where around the early 1500s. Scones are traditionally connected with Scotland, Ireland and England, but exactly who deserves the honor of invention, no one knows for sure. Scones may well have originated in Scotland. The first mention of scones was by a Scottish poet in 1513. Also called frankfurters, frank, weenie, wienie, wiener, dog, and red hot. A cooked sausage that consists of a combination of beef and pork or all beef, which is cured, smoked, and cooked. Seasonings may include coriander, garlic, ground mustard, nutmeg, salt, sugar, and white pepper. They are fully cooked but are usually served hot. Sizes range from big dinner frankfurters to tiny cocktail size.
9th Century B.C.
850 - Sausage is one of the oldest forms of processed food, having been mentioned in Homer's Odyssey (an ancient Greek tale of adventure and heroism). Following is the line from the book:
"As when a man besides a great fire has filled a sausage with fat and blood and turns it this way and that and is very eager to get it quickly roasted…"
In 1988, Dippin' Dots Founder and Chairman, Curt Jones changed the way the world enjoys ice cream. Dippin' Dots are made from fresh dairy ingredients flavored with fun, fruity, enticing and even exotic flavors. The mixture is frozen almost instantly in liquid nitrogen, a common element in the atmosphere used commercially for flash freezing.

ferris wheel!

The world’s first Ferris wheel was invented for Chicago's Columbian Exposition of 1893.
  • Chicago Wheel – The world’s first Ferris wheel. (Destroyed 1906)
  • Drive-In-Wheel – Exactly what it sounds like, a drive in Ferris wheel in Antwerp, Holland.
  • London Eye – The tallest Ferris wheel in Europe.
  • Singapore Flyer – The tallest Ferris wheel in the world.
  • Southern Star – The tallest Ferris wheel in the southern hemisphere. (Currently closed after cracks in the metalwork were found.)
  • Texas Star – The tallest Ferris wheel in North America.
  • Tianjin Eye – The tallest, and possibly only, Ferris wheel built over a bridge.
  • Wiener Riesenrad – Constructed in 1897, one of the oldest Ferris wheels still in use.

The Ferris wheel at Lagoon is the scariest I have been on because; it is so big and goes up in the air really high. But it’s kind of lame unless you are ridding with people that make it fun to be in. The first Ferris wheel was invented in 1893 then was later destroyed

Santa Monica’s main attraction point, the Ferris wheel, has now received a complimentary update consisting of 160,000 attached LEDs. The upgrade has pulled $1.5 million from the city’s funding. The 90-foot ride was built in 1996 by Chance Morgan Rides and was the world’s first Ferris wheel to use solar power.

emotional rollercoaster

My emotions are different with different rides, but the one emotion that will never change is the fear of the rides breaking. For example: I am scared to go on the Zipper or the Ring of Fire.
For the zipper, I think it’s just cause I am so small that I get tossed around a lot in the zipper, and I just feel really insecure. First off I’m scared of heights and secondly I just feel the doors aren’t secure enough, so I feel like the doors are going to pop open as we are spinning around in the carts. My first time ever going on the zipper was when I went with a really good friend in elementary school; I think it was about in 5th grade. We went on the zipper and it was just a really bad experience, but the guy that was running the ride was really nice and stopped the ride to check if we were ok and he let us off because we didn’t want to be on the ride anymore, and ever since I just have had a bad fear because of that experience.
Going off topic for a minute, when I was about 13 I went to lagoon and, I went on a lot of the rides there, but there was a ride there and it was like the zipper, I can’t really remember what the name was but it was so close to the zipper and my step sister wanted me to go on it, but since it was similar to the zipper I told her no. After a while I just went on it, it was really weird because it WAS like the zipper but, I just felt more secure in it and it was much more fun! But when I got to the carnival, I will never go on the zipper. Every year I always tell myself that I’m not going to chicken out and just go on the zipper, but like always every year, I see the zipper and chicken out. I hate that about myself.
Another ride is the Ring of fire, I mainly hate that one because if the height. When I go to the carnival I always look for ward to the orbiter, and the graviton. There is one more ride I can not remember what its called but it is the greatest ride. Its weird because it does kind of get high and it goes upside down, but it is just the best thing.
Well there is another one, its not exactly a ride, but I hate going in it. It would be the House of mirrors. I can never find my way through those things unless I am with a friend, but why would anyone go the carnival alone? I think that would be lame, NOBODY ever goes alone. But anyways, like I said I never go in it unless my friend wants to. The best way I get out of the thing is either sliding my had against the mirror or holding onto the back of my friends shirt; best method.
I am going to talk about one more ride that I have a great fear for. That would be the Farris Wheel. That is the ride that I will never go on, I have gone on it maybe 2 times in my life, but that would be about it. All because of the height and just the way it is set up. Another reason I hate it, is because it is the slowest and the most boring thing ever made. I don’t even know why people would want to go on that ride, for the joy of it, that’s lame. But anyways that would be my emotions on the rides.
